Wolfgang’s Restaurant
German Cuisine
With a touch of Swiss

A cosy BYO restaurant with great food!
Wolfgang’s is one of those places you immediately feel comfortable in. Wolfgang or his lovely wife Myriam, welcome you at the door, immediately giving you an essence of the hospitality of the resaurant.
Wolfgang’s Restaurant is a small venue, tucked away in a small arcade in Bowral, somehow making this a very special ‘find.’ It’s fairly new, so at this stage, still a well kept secret - about to be discovered.

Wolfgang
It’s a delightful place for a romantic evening or could be a fabulous venue for a social get together of friends, to enjoy the intimate environment this restaurant provides, along with a variety of food to tempt any palate.
Wolfgang opened this restaurant, wanting to give his diners the opportunity to savour the flavours of homecooked German and Swiss cuisine.
Savour the flavours, one does. The menu offers a variety of dishes. Beef Rolades, Vienna Schnitzel, barramundi, Pork Knuckle, and what is fast becoming a favourite of his diners is his rabbit dishes.
We started with Aubergine Bread. Its fine subtle flavours, doing exactly what a starter should do - entice the palate to want more! Delicious!
For entrees we shared Potato Dumplings, and Stuffed Mushrooms. As a child, my mother’s potato dumplings were a favourite. Eating these dumplings I knew why. The mushrooms in the accompanying creamy sauce was superb.
For mains we decided on the traditional Pork Knuckle with crunchy crackling, and served with the German’s favourite - Sauerkraut, delicious, sweet, braised Red cabbage, creamy mashed potato and German mustard.
I had Beef Rolades, another dish I remember from when I was a child. This dish consists of slow cooked, beef rolls, filled with bacon, carrot, leek and crutons, served with braised red cabbage and pan fried spaetzle, a small noodle/dumpling.
The flavours of these meals were delicious. Wolfgang’s past career as a flavourist, has resulted in food extremely pleasing to the palate. We began with a starter, and ate our way through to dessert and coffee, savouring every mouthful.
Wolfgang and Myriam are gracious hosts, and provide a menu to come back for regularly. Prices range from Entrees - all $12, and mains starting at $19.50 to $28.
Wolfgang is planning some interesting themes over the next few months. Next month he is planning ‘Fondues.’
Wolfgang’s is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday

Some of the most majestic views you will come across in the Southern Highlands are from the National Park at Fitzroy Falls. As you can see, even on a misty day, a visit here provides a breathtaking experience.

In the Mist at Fitzroy Falls
There are numerous walking tracks, that can take you from a few minutes to a couple of hours to walk. The lookouts you come across along the way are bound to delight you, and give you views of not just the water falls

a moment of visibility in the mist
but views from various perspectives overlooking the escarpment.

A long or a short walk - either will reveal the beauty of this National Park.
There is an enormous variety of plant life. Eucalypts, ferns, Banksias, a variety of Lichen and fungi.

fungi growing on a moist rock
At this time of year it is often misty. The mist I’m sure has been pre-arranged, to prompt you to look at the many other things that appeal besides the view. Keep your eyes peeled, look around you. You may even see a Lyre Bird!
These little members of the fungi family were growing vertically out from a moist rock. Wonderful aren’t they?
Every now and again, return to a lookout to see what ever changing sights the rolling mist reveals.

When you’ve walked up an appetite, warm up in the Visitors’ Centre Cafe with a freshly made soup, home made pie, topped with mashed potatoes or maybe just a hot coffee, and a muffin just out of the oven.

The Fitzroy Falls Visitors’ Centre also has an information centre and shop. Here you can ask staff about the Fitzroy Falls National Park, as well as any other National Park. The Visitors’ Centre can provide you with daily or annual passes, check for available camping sites in other areas, and will ensure your visit to Fitzroy Falls is an enjoyable one.
The shop has a variety of locally made products, and feature a different local artist monthly. Well worth a visit.

Elephant Boy Cafe
329 Bong Bong Street
Ph. 02 4861 1393
If I’m in Bowral, I inevitably end up lunching at Elephant Boy Cafe. I time my shopping around that visit. Elephant Boy Cafe is an indulgence not just of great food, but indulgence in an atmosphere unlike any other cafe in Bowral.
Walking into the Elephant Boy Cafe gives a feeling of both comfort and sophistication.
The walls are lined with an alluring collection of old radios, old golf clubs, and books, so if you are on your own, there is no room for boredom.
Old books with unknown titles, old books with titles your mum and dad read or grandparents read. Old books about obscure boring and interesting topics, things you didin’t know they wrote books about.
The lighting enhances an already relaxing and comfortable atmosphere, highlighting interesting features, to take you on a visual journey.
The menu tempts you with not only with descriptions to make your mouth water, but with tid bits of information behind the choice of menu items. It includes delicious pies, soup, curry and wraps. For the sweet tooth there are an array of very tempting cakes and muffins. The staff are attentive and friendly,
and the owner Claudia Le Duc is warm and charming and readilyavailable for a chat.
For a taste of something rather special in cafes, treat yourself to a visit to Elephant Boy Cafe.

BELMORE FALLS
Belmore Falls provides an exquisite place to visit and explore. There are rock pools, water falls, picnic spots and plenty of bushwalks. Belmore Falls can be accessed from Robertson, taking the Belmore Falls Road or from Fitzroy Falls taking the Myra Vale Rd.
This is one of those places you can return to again, and again. It’s secluded and peaceful. An real escape from the hustle and bustle.

THE BURRAWANG HOTEL
Nestled in the lush green hills of the Southern Highlands about 2 hours south of Sydney is the little village of Burrawang where you will find the Burrawang Hotel.

The hotel was built in 1928 and has been owned and nurtured to its present high ranking by Ed and Julie Woolfrey for the last 16 years.
They are both hands on owners and this shows. Hospitality is the name of the game, and this couple have put together a winning combination of great tasting modern country food, and warm country hospitality.
Lunch time menu consists of burgers, soups, home made filo pies, and vegetarian dishes. Dinner menu varies and always includes a delicious roast.
The pub has been ‘touched up’ rather than refurbished, and still proudly boosts its age, but has the added features of beautiful scenic outdoor terraced seating, overlooking a view that the Highlands is reknowned for.
Inside, the lounge area has an open fireplace and comfortable lounges. The diningroom holds a true country ambiance, with a fire, and wooden tables with checkers games, and the bar sells some great local wines and beers.

For a glorious drive and a great outing not too far from the big smoke, try the Burrawang Hotel, and if you decide to stay they have both very comfortable hotel accomodation, as well as B&B style luxurious spa suites with spectacular views.
